Welcome to the Cryoverse, a website dedicated to the web-serials written by Klokinator (Me). The Cryoverse is set in a Grimbright genre where bleak and challenging realities collide with the unending willpower and optimism of humanity, who always fight back against their demonic and alien oppressors. Progress marches on, and so too do the scale of the battles humanity fights against their myriad of enemies. Expect detailed lore, heavy worldbuilding, expansive character casts of fleshed out men and women alike, and battles of varying sizes using hard power systems where each fight is a strategic matter mixed with emotional overtones. The Cryoverse has it all.

The Cryopod to Hell is the original web-serial I started writing back in 2016. It has two iterations: The Cryopod to Hell Classic, and The Cryopod to Hell Refresh. Both of these have the same general story, but Refresh is completely rewritten from top to bottom and is a far, far better experience. Just skip TCTH Classic unless you’ve read all my other writing and want to see how the series started.

In TCTH, the main protagonist is named Jason Hiro. Jason is extremely depressed, and as such he enters a cryogenics program, thinking it will probably kill him, but at least his life will have medical and research value. What he doesn’t expect is to wake up 100,000 years in the future, all alone, with an evil monster chasing him through the Labyrinth of Hell. Jason flees from the monster, and in the process of doing so, he discovers that he has obtained a strange magical power known as Wordsmithing. This power allows him to conjure any sort of magic by speaking a single Word of Power.

Humanity has long fallen into damnation. They are trapped on bubble worlds, ruled by the demons, the angels are dead, and all hope seems lost. However, with Jason’s new power, and a new purpose, perhaps he has a chance to change the future and save the galaxy from the demonic scourge…

This serial is extremely long, and it is broken up into major arcs, all part of one long, continuous story. You will meet hundreds of named characters of many different species, and all of them have a lot of thought put into their design, their motivations, their personalities, and even their magical powers. It is a story epic in length, with rising highs and brutal emotional lows.

The Last Precursor is a ‘short’ introductory story I wrote to more easily get people into the Cryoverse. At 380,000 words, it’s a fraction the length of TCTH, but still quite long compared to most hardcover books. This serial received a rewrite after release which added an additional chapter and changed the ending, since some people didn’t like it and I felt it could be better. If you want something that will help you get into the Cryoverse, isn’t millions of words long, and gets the point across regarding what the Cryoverse is about, I highly recommend reading TLP first!

The main protagonist of The Last Precursor is Jose Rodriguez, a super-soldier who, along with the rest of his crew, enters stasis-sleep for what they expect to be a quick hyperjump through the stars. Instead, something goes wrong, and their ship, the Bloodbearer, is trapped inside a plasma cloud. 100,000,000 years pass, and Jose awakens to find that not only have all of the crew perished inside their pods, but the entirety of humanity has been rendered extinct as well!

Jose is horrified to find that he is the last human in the galaxy. Now, the denizens of the Milky Way are bipedal cats, dogs, crocodiles, and other animal species that rose up after our fall. They revere Jose Rodriguez as a Precursor, one of the ‘ancients’ who perished during an unknown calamity that befell the entire galaxy in ages long past. Now Jose must choose whether to try and revive humanity or not while navigating this strange new universe, all while investigating what could have killed his people.

At the same time, an ancient evil lurks, pursuing Jose once it learns a remnant of its most hated enemy survived the galactic purge…

There are many other short stories and one-offs written in the Cryoverse. Check out the writing page every so often for new stories.
