Welcome to the Cryoverse, a website dedicated to the web-serials written by Klokinator (Me).
These serials are part of a mystical multiverse where countless legends, myths, and conspiracies are true, whether literally or metaphorically. The world humanity knows is false, and the lies shielding our overlords from scrutiny also protect us from knowing the horrible Truths that would overload our minds with fear.
The Cryoverse is set in a Grimbright genre where bleak and challenging realities collide with the unending willpower and optimism of humanity, who always fight back against their demonic and alien oppressors. Progress marches on, and so too do the scale of the battles humanity fights against their myriad of enemies. Expect detailed lore, heavy worldbuilding, expansive character casts of fleshed out men and women alike, and battles of varying sizes using hard power systems where each fight is a strategic matter mixed with emotional overtones. The Cryoverse has it all.
Below is a list of various web-serials I’ve written, along with quick synopses. More detailed summaries can be found inside their dedicated pages. ALL series of 3+ chapters will also allow you to download an ebook for free of their contents. For any in-progress serials, these links will update whenever I put out a new part, and you can just re-download the ebook to get all the new chapters.
The Cryopod to Hell is the original web-serial I started writing back in 2016. It has two iterations: The Cryopod to Hell Classic, and The Cryopod to Hell Refresh. Both of these have the same general story, but Refresh is completely rewritten from top to bottom and is a far, far better experience. Just skip TCTH Classic unless you’ve read all my other writing and want to see how the series started.
In TCTH, the main protagonist is named Jason Hiro. Jason is extremely depressed, and as such he enters a cryogenics program, thinking it will probably kill him, but at least his life will have medical and research value. What he doesn’t expect is to wake up 100,000 years in the future, all alone, with an evil monster chasing him through the Labyrinth of Hell. Jason flees from the monster, and in the process of doing so, he discovers that he has obtained a strange magical power known as Wordsmithing. This power allows him to conjure any sort of magic by speaking a single Word of Power.
Humanity has long fallen into damnation. They are trapped on bubble worlds, ruled by the demons, the angels are dead, and all hope seems lost. However, with Jason’s new power, and a new purpose, perhaps he has a chance to change the future and save the galaxy from the demonic scourge…
This serial is extremely long, and it is broken up into major arcs, all part of one long, continuous story. You will meet hundreds of named characters of many different species, and all of them have a lot of thought put into their design, their motivations, their personalities, and even their magical powers. It is a story epic in length, with rising highs and brutal emotional lows.
The Last Precursor is a ‘short’ introductory story I wrote to more easily get people into the Cryoverse. At 380,000 words, it’s a fraction the length of TCTH, but still quite long compared to most hardcover books. This serial received a rewrite after release which added an additional chapter and changed the ending, since some people didn’t like it and I felt it could be better. If you want something that will help you get into the Cryoverse, isn’t millions of words long, and gets the point across regarding what the Cryoverse is about, I highly recommend reading TLP first!
The main protagonist of The Last Precursor is Jose Rodriguez, a super-soldier who, along with the rest of his crew, enters stasis-sleep for what they expect to be a quick hyperjump through the stars. Instead, something goes wrong, and their ship, the Bloodbearer, is trapped inside a plasma cloud. 100,000,000 years pass, and Jose awakens to find that not only have all of the crew perished inside their pods, but the entirety of humanity has been rendered extinct as well!
Jose is horrified to find that he is the last human in the galaxy. Now, the denizens of the Milky Way are bipedal cats, dogs, crocodiles, and other animal species that rose up after our fall. They revere Jose Rodriguez as a Precursor, one of the ‘ancients’ who perished during an unknown calamity that befell the entire galaxy in ages long past. Now Jose must choose whether to try and revive humanity or not while navigating this strange new universe, all while investigating what could have killed his people.
At the same time, an ancient evil lurks, pursuing Jose once it learns a remnant of its most hated enemy survived the galactic purge…
In addition to my main serials, I also have several prequels, sequels, and side-stories planned. For now, these are all directly related to The Last Precursor, but in the future there will be others relating to The Cryopod to Hell, once that story is nearing completion or otherwise completed. These ‘Story Starters’ are single chapters that are written from the start of these potential stories, and in the future when I begin writing for these stories in earnest, I will continue from the end of these single-chapters.
NOTE: I always advocate reading my content in release order. Read either TLP or TCTH first, then read other stories in release order afterward. Do not read TLP’s prequels or sequels before TLP, or you will have a much worse experience than necessary.
Forbidden Cargo (Hard Sci-Fi) (Distant Prequel to TLP)
Charles Weston is the leader of a small family-run smuggling business. He owns a single frigate, where he ferries cargo and people from place to place. However, his long-time acquaintance, Janice Green, has a new job for him. She needs him to ferry an ancient artifact out of a hot zone. And this artifact also happens to be something the galaxy’s most fanatic zealots will never let anyone else touch.
Demons and Cyborgs (Sci-Fi vs Magic) (Prequel-Sequel to TLP)
Evelyn Oakley runs for her life. She flees around the base of a mountain from the demon slavers chasing after her, only to fail when they pounce upon her. However, from the mountain’s top, a terrible explosion rocks the world. A certain figure falls from the sky, someone who will change the fate of the entire continent.
Return of the Precursors (Sci-Fi vs Magic) (Direct Sequel to TLP)
The crew of a human vessel are fleeing from pirates and are forced to activate their warp drive while distressingly close to a black hole. They inadvertently travel 100,000,000 years into the future, only to find out that all of humanity is dead and the galaxy is ruled by uplifted animals humans once raised as pets! Now, these ‘Precursors’ need to rebuild human civilization while piecing together the mystery of the Cataclysm that recently brought the Milky Way to its knees. There was already a Precursor who came before them, and his name was Jose Rodriguez.
The Human Hunt (Sci-Fi) (Direct Sequel to RotP)
100,000,000 years in the future, the Kraktol (Reptilians) send their fresh recruits to train on a world known as Tarus II. However, these fresh-scales don’t realize their ‘prey’ is actually the deadliest hunter in the known universe: A Neanderthal, brought back to life from the ancient Terran times. This is a short three-part mini-series, set as a sequel to a future sequel to The Last Precursor. You can read this directly after TLP, and it is basically complete. I might rewrite it into a full story someday.
My writing was originally posted on Reddit, specifically on the Writing Prompts subreddit. I ultimately stopped at some point during the Cryopod Classic era, but in that time I wrote a lot of one-off stories that were sometimes set in the Cryoverse, and sometimes not. I also posted several one-offs on the HFY subreddit (Humanity, Fuck Yeah!). These stories can all be found in the One-Offs page. In the future, I am certain to write more one-offs now that I have a dedicated platform for them.
Here are all of the One-Off stories with a short description for each of them. The ones that were originally writing prompts will simply use the prompt itself as the description. Stories tagged with [CEU] are part of the Cryopod Extended Universe, AKA the Cryoverse. They are directly related to stories in TCTH or TLP in some way.
